In 2008, after attending a cousin’s graduation on an Air Force base in San Antonio, Tehuti Miles at age 17 decided to enlist in the U.S. Army. Two years later Miles found himself at Fort Drum in New York, and a month after that, thousands of miles away in Afghanistan.
After his four years, Miles thought he would remain working in the Army. However, a love for football drove him to pursue a college career. Tehuti Miles had played two years of football in high school and would play with his friends on a beat-up field at Fort Drum. (Washington Post Article)
When Tehuti first applied to The University of Maryland, he was rejected. However, he persisted, sticking to his mentality that “if I can do the military, I can do anything.” After receiving credits from Prince George’s Community College in Maryland, his second application was a success.
Once accepted, Tehuti wasted no time in securing a spot on the Maryland Terrapins’ football roster. After a one day tryout, he received a phone call asking him to join the team. Miles was thrilled. However, there was one last test of will—the NCAA had ruled Tehuti ineligible to play. Maryland was able to successfully file a waiver, which included his credits from Prince George’s Community college and his collection of military medals. Soon after, the NCAA processed the form and cleared Miles for play. As a Terrapin, Tehuti made a significant impact on the scout team, earning several scout team player of the week awards. In an ESPN article by Rick Riley, Tehuti says the following on his experience as a Terrapin: “College football seems like the military. Everybody’s a brother. I love it.”
Tehuti Miles graduated The University of Maryland in 2016. He is currently a wrestler with MCW Pro Wrestling and hopes to fight his way into the WWE.
